Every treatment needs a way into the bloodstream. A fistula is a connection made surgically in the arm. A catheter is a tube placed in a large vein. Fistulas last longer and get infected less, so they are generally preferred where a patient's veins allow one.

Common questions about FMC South Suburban Dialysis Facility

Does FMC South Suburban Dialysis Facility offer home dialysis training?

Yes. This clinic trains patients for peritoneal dialysis. Training is a series of visits rather than a permanent move, and your nephrologist has to agree it suits you.

Does it have evening or late shifts?

Yes — Medicare records chairs available after 5pm. Which specific times are free changes constantly and is published nowhere, so call to ask.

How many stations does it have?

20 stations, meaning up to 20 people can be treated at once. A larger unit usually means more shift options. It says nothing about the quality of care.

Does Medicare publish a quality rating for it?

Yes. Medicare places this clinic in the top 25% of US clinics. That is a position in a national distribution, not a score it passed or failed — most clinics sit in the middle band by design.

Who owns it?

It is a for-profit facility operated by Fresenius Medical Care, Medicare-certified since 1991.

How do I find out if there is an open chair?

By calling. Chair availability, insurance acceptance and wait times are not published by Medicare, or by anyone else, for any clinic in the country. That is why the phone number is at the top of this page.
